I went for a ride with Little Willie this morning and, as we were riding through town, noticed something interesting in the lay-by outside the old Post Office in Middleton Street, so turned around and went to take a closer look!
Parking my Bantam near by, with my camera in hand I found it to be another British motorbike - a Norton of 1940s/'50s vintage. I've taken a look through all my motorcycle books and the nearest I could get was a Norton ES2, a 490cc single, with plunger rear suspension, dating from 1949. But I could be wrong! Anyone else got other ideas? If so, please drop me a line. The front mudguard doesn't appear to be standard and the silencer may not be original, but, all in all, it's a lovely bike and I just wish I could have met its owner and even heard it start up! Maybe next time?

Boy AlbieI've been the proud owner of a 1965 BSA Bantam D7 since 1991, affectionately known as Little Willie (Wilhelmina) and love to take her out for a ride so that others can see her. Archives
