I've now decided to get help and have made arrangements to take the wheel to the North Walsham Motorcycle Museum who will sandblast the wheel and fit new spokes. I'll then repaint it with the paint I bought for the rest of the bike.
I've dismantled the hub as far as I can, but I seem to be stuck with the brake-side wheel bearing as there appears to be a locking ring holding it in place. Someone has had a go at removing it.... another job for Steve at Walsham!
The diagram shows two wheel bearings - but my wheel has three...!
I've noticed there's a felt oil seal missing from the brake-plate side, and the bearings are knackered (a technical term, ie. worn out) [so will you be before you've finished - Ed]
That's it for tonight, I think!
PS: Little Willie is poorly; I started my D7 this morning (second kick) and she ticked over nicely, but wouldn't respond to the throttle and just kept 'dying'! Seem like petrol starvation, so I'll have to remove the carb and take a look. There was some gunge in the fuel filter though.... Always something, isn't there?
