The original switch fitted in the headlamp shell - operated by a lever on the handlebars - was defective (I'm not surprised after 63 years of use! - Ed), so I've fitted one I had from a D7. I know - I know - it's not original, but it works and, anyway, I can change it later if I'm happy with the D1. That, of course, we shall see...
... but you'd be quite surpised what a mucking fuddle I managed to get in today rewiring the D1! All's well that ends well, and I think I've sorted it - but we shall see when I start up the engine and take some readings. If the lights come on - and stay on! - that'll be a bonus.
